Follow the instructions to set up your own Google account. Google Accounts will give you access to iGoogle, Picasa, groups and other Google applications. Keep in mind setting up a Google account this way will not also get you a Google e-mail or Gmail account. However, Gmail can easily be added later to your existing Google account. Many people sign up through Google Accounts instead of through Gmail because they already have an existing e-mail account and don't want another one.

  1. Step 1

At the top of your computer screen in the address bar type in: www.google.com. See the screenshot in this step.

  2. Step 2

At the top right of your screen click "sign in".

  3. Step 3

Now in the middle of the page notice the area that says "Don't Have a Google Account?". Click the link that says "Create an account now".

  4. Step 4

You will then be directed to a form to fill out. The first thing you will enter is your existing e-mail address. This could be a work e-mail, yahoo e-mail or any e-mail that is your primary e-mail address.

  5. Step 5

Now choose a password for your Google account. Make sure you will remember it and be sure to make it plenty of characters in length mixing alpha and numeric characters. The longer the password is with a good mix of both characters the stronger the password is. Reenter the same chosen password.

  6. Step 6

Uncheck the "Remember me on this computer" box especially if it is a shared computer.

  7. Step 7

Leave the "Enable Web History" box checked but only if you want Google to remember the sites you are visiting.

  8. Step 8

Leave the "Set Google as my default homepage" box checked if you want the Google homepage to always pop up when you access the internet. This will now override anything you previously set up.

  9. Step 9

Choose your location, type in the characters you see in the box as instructed and click the "I accept. Create my Account" button.
