If you are lucky enough to find a great vintage chandelier at a 2nd hand store or antique shop, get it! Regardless if the natural patina just needs a little TLC or you want to reinvent it for your shabby chic home; giving it new life is easy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Painter's Tape
  • Wire Brush
  • Spray Primer (rust preventing)
  • Gloss Aluminum Paint
  • Lightbulbs
  1. Step 1

Remove all wiring and parts and carefully set them aside. Tape off the bulb sockets to avoid getting paint in them.

  2. Step 2

Use a wire brush to gently scrub away any dirt, paint or rust; wash off and wipe dry with a cloth.

  3. Step 3

Spray the chandelier surface with a thin layer of your rust-preventing spray primer. Allow to dry. Depending on the color, you may want to apply two coats.
*Always use spray paint and primer outdoors for proper ventilation.

  4. Step 4

When the primer is completely dry, spray several thin coats of gloss aluminum paint. Make sure when spraying that you are constantly moving and hold the can at least 8-inches from the chandelier.

  5. Step 5

Replace all wiring (or rewire if needed) and add lightbulbs. You can also keep the wiring out and just place candlesticks in the socket to make a romantic candlelit chandelier.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use the proper bulbs to avoid overheating and possible fire.
