You can make a wood frame for your water bed

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • These sizes of lumber for queen size water bed.
  • 4 - 2" x 10" wood of your choice
  • 22 - 4" flat metal, 90 degree inside angle
  • 1 - 5 lbs. 1 1/4" coarse screws
  • 1 - 5 lbs. 3" screws
  • framing square
  • skill or hand saw
  • screw gun
  1. Step 1

Before you cut the lumbers to size you make sure that there is no sharp edges that can puncture the water bed so you should sand the lumbers smooth. A frame for a queen size water bed the measurement is 84" x 60"" inside the opening. For the 60" pieces is going to be cut at 63", when you mount the 63" to the ends of both the two 84" pieces to make a square it will take off 3" and leave you with 60" inside opening for the water bed.

  2. Step 2

Cut 2 pieces of 2" x 8" x 84" long then cut 2 pieces of 2" x 8" x 63"" long. Sand all the cut ends and all the edges should be knocked down. Now you can start mount the square wooden box that will hold the water bag for the water bed. What you need to know is that the 63" should be screwed flat on the end of the 80" long piece of 2" x 8"".

  3. Step 3

If you want to drive screw on the outside edges to hold the woods together that's fine, if the wood you choose is dry or hard wood, you have to pre drill the holes before putting the screw in, if you force the screw it will split the lumber. You have to still install the flat angle metal inside the corners of the box, this will prevent a frame blow out. You can install at lease 2, 3 will be better on every corner, top and bottom. The rest of the angles is to secure the frame onto the water bed's pedestal 2 on each short side and 3 each on the long side

Tips & Warnings
  • You can staple foam sheets and cover the whole box before putting the water bed in
  • Always wear safety goggles
  • Be aware of electric and sharp tool

on 5/24/2009 Hi Folks,There's a little misinformation here! Based upon over 30 years experience with waterbeds: 1. Use 2 x 10's only. 2 x 8 will be too short and your mattress will hang over the top.2. A Queen measures 60" x 84" not 80". 3. If you are using pine for the wood, do not pre-drill or it will quickly fall apart because it is a soft wood.If you need help try going here: http://www.awesomewaterbeds.com/Wood_Frame_Waterbed_FAQs.cfm and don't be afraid to ask for help.Have fun!WaterbedGuru
