Make your very own home remedy! Stop the pain of an ear infection quickly, and kill the infection with these simple ingredients you can find in your own kitchen. Safe for children, and best of all its natural.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small metal cup, or bowl that is safe for the stove top
  • pure olive oil
  • one clove fresh garlic
  • garlic press or knife
  • child medicine dropper
  • Not necessary but helpful small mesh strainer or cheese cloth.
  1. Step 1

This is the best home remedy for curing an ear infection, and works to stop the pain quickly. I have done it for my young child when she has woken up in the middle of the night crying in pain. The pain should stop in 15 minutes or less. Here's how you do it.

  2. Step 2

Get a small stove top safe bowl, or small pan. I use a 1/4 cup stainless steel measuring cup. Pour a small amount of olive oil in it. About a table spoon. You don't need much. Warm the olive oil on the stove top till it is a little warmer than body temperature. NOT HOT, which will kill the antibiotic properties of the garlic. It shouldn't take more than a minute or so. Remove from heat.

  3. Step 3

Either finely chop the clove of garlic, or use a garlic press, and add the garlic to the oil. Let the garlic sit in the olive oil for a few minutes, and cool to body temperature.

MAKE SURE you test the temperature of the oil! You can do this by dabbing a small amount on your inner wrist. Make sure it is no warmer than body temperature! It should not be hot. The warmth of the oil will be soothing in the ear. You can strain out the garlic if you want. Fill your medicine dropper with a small amount of just the oil. Make sure there are no garlic pieces. Lay the child on their side with their head on a pillow. Try to get them to stay on their side for at least 10 or 15 minutes. If they wont stay down put a little cotton in their ear so the oil isn't dripping out. Try and do this at least 3 times a day for at least a couple of days.

Tips & Warnings
  • The allicin in the garlic contains antibiotic properties that can kill an ear infection.
  • The olive oil and garlic are completely safe to use in the ear.
  • If your baby is fussing, and pulling on his ear, and has a fever this is a sign of an ear infection.
  • Do not use if the ear drum is perforated, or if there is any blood coming out of the ear! Take you child to the doctor!
  • This works best if you do it at the first sign of the infection.

on 3/20/2009 I stopped by my neighbors house yesterday, and her little girl was crying because her ear was hurting. I went home and made some garlic oil for her. Sure enough she stopped crying after a few minutes, and hasn't complained since. The great thing about this home remedy is that it works quickly to sooth the pain in the ear. Another success with the garlic oil!!
