Step 1
First you need to dress with some style, dress according to what your going to do and what the weather is like. Wear semi-nice clothes and leave the ripped up jeans on the floor (wear em tomorrow). Women like to know when your trying to impress them (as long as its subtle). It makes them feel like you think they're worth looking nice for. They appreciate that. Ive read one of the first things women notice about a man is his shoes, so opt for the Timberlands or Docs or something that doesnt have mud all over them. You dont have to tuck it in but a good polo or button up is preferred over a t-shirt as well.

Step 2
Shave!!! Dont be all scruffy. Facial hair is ok but dont go with a half ass beard. Make it look nice. It doesnt matter how much you see it in the movies, 99% of girls dont want to kiss your giant stash or feel your big goatee scraping their skin. Keep it within reason, itll lead to MORE kissing.

Step 3
Dont overdo the cologne! When you shower most of you will use a body wash like axxe or tag or something, which is scented, then youll use an aftershave and/or a cologne. Take it easy, you dont want to smell like a manwhore house.

Brush your teeth before the date. Good breath is essential. Also carry a breath strip or mint for after dinner.

This may be the most important step, choosing what to do. For a first date there are several options. Some like to WOW a girl and spend loads of money on her to impress, others like to stick with dinner/movie or just coffee or something so they can see if the girl is worth the spending of loads of their cash. So make sure you know which you are. If your the former, try to steer away from dinner and a movie. Its old and boring and says to a girl "I really dont care enough to be creative" So BE CREATIVE. Even at the cost of your masculinity. E.G. - Go get pedicures together, theres plenty of places around town and in a local mall where you can get one for 15-20 bucks each. MAJOR points. Then go to dinner (themed steakhouses are great), then go get ice cream and find a scenic town square or park to walk through and talk (mostly about her, ask lots of questions, and LISTEN cause she'll quiz you later without you realizing it). For the latter option its best to find a quiet place to talk, dont go to a loud bar or club. Try a coffee shop, wine bar, ice cream parlor, or something that will allow for a talkative atmosphere.

Step 6
Open doors for her, unless shes a hardcore feminist and disagrees with chivalry. Dont pull out the chair for her, thats almost borderline creepy now days and will get you more "what a tool" stares than you can handle on a first date.

Watch how you come off, dont go crazy with the cussing and offensive thoughts and opinions. Find out her opinions before you go offending them. You dont have to change yours to suit hers, but dont insult hers either.

No matter how much she insists, pay for everything. This is usually another test that women like to use. If you give in, shell think that you value money over her. It may or may not be true and it may cost you but play it safe and pay for everything.

Lastly, at the end of the night, you drop her off, and walk her to her door. Now days on first dates, a kiss is perfectly acceptable. Play the situation by ear. If shes really wanting a kiss go for it. But ill tell you right now, if you want to keep her thinking about you all week long or until you meet up again, dont kiss her on the lips. Trust me!! Lean in and kiss her on the cheek, lightly and for about 2 seconds. 2 FULL seconds! After that, thank her for an amazing evening and tell her youll call/text her tomorrow. (make sure you do it too) She will do nothing but tell ALL her friends about you and shell be nuts for you.
