  1. Step 1

    To lower you cholesterol with foods, you may need to make some dietary changes. After discussing your plans with your physician, consider adding a few nuts to your daily menu. Raw walnuts and almonds are easy to add to any meal. Nuts can also be used as a snack.

    Add oatmeal, or another oat bran cereal to your day. These cereals contain soluble fiber, which can reduce your cholesterol. Adding fruit to your cereal can add plant phenols, and sterols, which are also known to help reduce cholesterol levels. Many cereal products can be added to muffin and cookie recipes, which gives you an easy way to enjoy what's good for you. This is also a good time to add some almonds, or walnuts.

    Help lower cholesterol levels by eating salads with extra virgin olive oil two or three times a week.     While all vegetables and fruits are good for you, avocados may help you get some of the healthy fat you need. Add some avocado slices to a salad, or eat some plain.

    To lower your cholesterol, physicians may tell you to eat fatty fish to get enough omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Many of us who do not eat fish use omega-3 supplements instead. If you are under the care of a physician, or have health issues, tell your physician if you decide to add supplements.
