Work at home moms have numerous challenges. Finding a balance between working and being a mother is one of the biggest challenges you will face. Here are some tips to find that balance.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • children
  • a work at home job
  1. Step 1

Make a schedule- Making a schedule, even if it is a loose schedule is very important. This does not mean you need to schedule every minute of your day. That is impossible because with children, surprises always happen. Work at home moms need structure, but also flexibility. Have an order to the way you do things, such as after breakfast you play with the children and after lunch they watch their favorite tv show, while you get some work done

  2. Step 2

Be organized- Work at home moms needs to be organized. I strongly suggest a binder or planner to keep your stuff organized. Remember it’s not just work stuff you need to keep organized, but also your family stuff. Having lists of work to do for work, your work goals, a list of household chores and such will help you get it all done and not neglect any area of your life. Using a list like the one from Motivated Moms is really helpful. You can find that information in my resources below.

  3. Step 3

Make time for your children- Work at home moms need to remember they are a mommy first! Make time for your children, don’t neglect their needs as you are trying to find time to work. Don’t get angry with them if they are seeking your attention because they need you too.

  4. Step 4

Make time for your work- Work at home moms need to find time to work on their job and on the house. Utilize times when your child is busy doing something else if they are old enough to not be in your immediate sight all the time. Get them busy with a craft or playing. Take advantage of when they are watching tv, playing video games or outside playing with a neighbor. If your child is younger, utilize naptime and after the child is in bed. Ask your spouse for help. My husband always reads our child a bedtime story and while he is doing that, I get some writing done.

  5. Step 5

Make time for yourself- Work at home moms are people too. They need down time for themselves also. Try to find creative ways to find time for yourself even if your schedule is really hectic. I have some tips on this in my resources down below.

  6. Step 6

Take care of yourself- Work at home moms need to keep healthy. Make sure you eat well and get a good night sleep. Sometimes moms get so busy that to squeeze a little more time out, they skip meals or try to keep themselves up at night longer, but this is a bad idea. Your body needs the energy from food and sleep to keep it going, especially when things get hectic.

  7. Step 7

Delegate- Work at home moms need help, they cannot do everything themselves. Children can learn to help with chores at a pretty young age. Of course don’t over burden your children, but it is healthy for them to do some chores. This helps build responsibility and helps them to feel needed. Also enlist in your husband to help. If you are helping out with the finances, he may be more than willing to help you find time to do that.

  8. Step 8

Check out the resources below- I have included several resources below. Also make sure you read the related articles on the sides for more information.
