Step 1
The first step in teaching water aerobics is to determine what type of class you will be teaching. Will this be a beginner's class, advanced class, senior class, or a prenatal water aerobics class. Each class will have modifications to meet the special needs of the participants.
-
Step 2
Once you decide on a class type you will need to determine how long the class will be. 45 minutes to 1 hour is a good time frame for a water aerobics class.
-
Step 3
Now you will need to develop a water aerobics routine to use in the class. Each class period must include a warm up, cardio exercises, strength training exercises and a cool down.
-
Step 4
Try to develop several routines for each type of class you will be teaching. This way your participants will not get bored. The more you switch up the routine the more fun your water aerobics class will be.
-
Step 5
When you teach your first few water aerobics classes ask the participants what exercises they liked and what ones they did not. Always ask for feedback. They can help you develop a fun routine to keep yourself and your class motivated.
-
Step 6
Always look for new routine ideas. There are many web sites available to help you come up with routine ideas. Also keep in mind that almost any exercise you do on dry land can be done in a water aerobics class. Try new things and have lots of fun! Your excitement will be contagious to your class participants.
