How to Manicure Your Nails

This is a tutorial for a natural nail manicure. Manicures improve the appearance of finger nails. You can easily do your own manicure at home and save $30. Manicures also improve the appearance of your hands. Well groomed nails can prevent cracks and breakage, keep your nails well defined and improve your cuticle function. Most items that are needed, you probably already have in your bathroom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • nail file
  • nail buffer
  • small bowl of warm water
  • orange stick
  • cuticle scissors
  • cuticle cream
  • nail clippers
  • nail polish remover - if necessary
  • cotton balls for polish remover
  • hand cream
  1. Step 1

Use the nail polish remover if you have any nail coating. Use as many cotton balls as necessary to remove all color.

  2. Step 2

Take the nail clippers and clip the desired amount of nail, making sure each nail is the same length. Do not try to clip the entire nail at one time, this can crack the nail.

  3. Step 3

Shape the nail with a nail file. You can shape in a square tip, rounded, or modified round (square with rounded edges)

  4. Step 4

Soften the cuticles by holding the nails in your bowl of warm water for 2 minutes. This step makes it easier to push the cuticles.

  5. Step 5

Use the orange stick to push the cuticles back and way from the nail toward the skin. Also use the stick to remove any dirt under the nails.

  6. Step 6

Use the cuticle scissors if you see any excess cuticle around the nail and skin.

  7. Step 7

Apply cuticle cream and rub into the cuticle areas.

  8. Step 8

    Apply hand cream.

  9. Step 9

Apply nail polish or a clear coat.

Tips & Warnings
  • The nail file should only be moved in one direction opposed to a back and forth motion.
  • be careful not to inhale the nail polish remover.
