Here is a quick fix if you have mildew on your walls.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Household Bleach
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Bucket
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Step Ladder (if Higher Up on wall or celling)
  • Old Clothes
  • Glasses or Safety Goggles
  • Large Sponge
  • Paint Rollers and Brushes
  1. Step 1

So what you want to do is get your bucket then mix 3 parts water to 1 part laundry bleach. Make sure that you do not add any other household cleaners to this mix. Most cleaners contain some sort of ammonia, and mixing these can cause toxic gases.

  2. Step 2

Dip the sponge in the mixture of water and bleach, and apply liberally to the affected area on the wall or celling. Repeat this process 20 minutes later even if the mold has disappeared.

  3. Step 3

Rinse off the bleach and mildew residue with clean, fresh water. Then wipe the wall with a fresh paper towel. Allow the wall to completely dry. Make sure the wall is not tacky to the touch at all. Otherwise your paint will not turn out right. The next step is not necessary but if you want to be thorough, prime the area and paint.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is pretty cut and dry I don't see any reason for additional tips.
  • If you are sensitive to bleach make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
  • What ever you do, don't mix the bleach with ammonia it will produce toxic fumes.
  • Make sure that you don't get any of the bleach and water mixture into your eyes, wear protective eye gear.
