Find a Private Phone Number
Find a Private Phone Number

If you would like to find a private phone number, there are a few easy steps you can take to get the information you seek.

Private phone calls can be avoided, if you are being harassed , or are afraid you might be a victim of harassing phone calls, you can find out who is calling .

There are a few reasons why a number will show up as private. The person may have a service through their phone company to block their number , or they are entering in a code when they call, keeping their number from showing up. Either way, you can find their number by following the steps below.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a private number that is being manually blocked-

This number will show up just as "private caller" there is no number to use for a search . If the caller is using a code to make their number come up as "private" , you can use a code back , to uncloak their phone number. After the private caller has hung up, press *69 to see their blocked phone number.

  2. Step 2

Find a phone number that is blocked by the phone company-

This isn't an immediate solution , but if you are having long term issues with private numbers, or don't want to run into a problem with unknown callers, you should look into this service. Phone companies offer two services to their customers that do not wish to receive private number calls.

    1) Anonymous call blocking-
This will bring all blocked numbers to a recording that will tell the caller they must unblock their number before their phone call can go through.

    2)Privacy Manager-
This feature will require the private caller to enter in their phone number before being connected to you. After they enter their number, they have to speak their name. You receive the recorded name and decide if to accept the call or not.

  3. Step 3

    Looking up a number-
If you receive a call that has a private name, but includes a number, you can find out who is calling by using a reverse look-up . Find a reverse phone look up directory by doing a search , and type in the number . It should bring up a name, and an address from where the call came from.

Tips & Warnings
  • These features may not be available through your phone company. Call and find out if you have to pay an additional fee to use

on 12/13/2009 Step 1 doesn't work where I live. If they push *67 to call as a "private caller" then *69 is not effective.

on 10/2/2009 Maybe I misread step 1, but it mentions to uncloak the private number you must have a code? or do you *69 to call the number and that is the code?
