How to Get McDonald's Coupons on Your Cell Phone in Japan

If you live in Japan, you may not be able to resist eating at McDonald's when there's one or two at every train station. Sometimes McDonald's is the only restaurant around, and sometimes, let's face it, you craving some fries.

Whatever your reason is, if you receive cell phone coupons from McDonald's you can save a hundred yen or more each time you go. It's always good to have a bunch of coupons easily accessible with your cell phone so here's how to get them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A cell phone
  1. Step 1

    First use your cell phone and visit McDonald's Japan's mobile homepage at http://w.mdj.jp.

  2. Step 2

    Choose option 1 which says "member toroku" or Member Registration.

  3. Step 3

    A yellow menu will come up when you click it. Choose the first item on the menu which says "Kaiin Toroku" in Japanese. This also means member registration.

  4. Step 4

    After clicking "Kaiin Toroku", you will be brought to the explanation page. At the very top it will say "Sora Mail o Okuru" which means "Send a blank email". Click this.

  5. Step 5

    The next screen should be your cell phone email ready to send a blank email to McDonald's mobile site registration. The address is the To: section should be reg@w.mdj.jp. Send the email.

  6. Step 6

    You'll get an automated response from the address info@w.mdj.jp. It will contain a link . Click on the link and connect to the net.

  7. Step 7

    You will be asked to fill in some information. First you will be asked your prefecture using a pulldown menu, then you will be asked to fill in your city and ward using hiragana. When you click "tsugi" or "next" the kanji for your city and ward will come up. Click that.

  8. Step 8

    Next you'll be able to gender, birthday, job, and number of children, and birth date of your youngest child. Then, you will be asked to make a four digit password and input it twice. Lastly you'll be asked whether you want to check the box to receive McDonald's Japan's mail magazine. Then click the enter or "kakunin" button.

  9. Step 9

    On the next page that comes up, you can check your information. If there are any mistakes you can correct them here. If not, you can click the "Toroku" or "Register" button and move on to the questionnaire. You'll be asked several questions about how you heard about the service and how often you go to McDonald's.

  10. Step 10

    Once the questionnaire is finished you'll be sent another email with verification of your registration and a link to http://w.mdj.jp where you can go to receive your coupons.

  11. Step 11

    To use a coupon, all you have to do is tell the McDonald's server the number of the coupon and enjoy the savings!

Tips & Warnings
  • It might be best to bookmark the McDonald's mobile site in your phone for quick access.
  • Coupons tend to be updated on Friday when the mail magazine is delivered.
  • There is always a happy meal coupon so people with families can save some money this way.
  • If you don't feel comfortable giving all your personal information to McDonald's I think there is some information you can skip or give "general" answers to.
  • The signing up process takes a bit of time but once it's done, it's done and I haven't had a problem since registering.
  • Be sure to check the dates and times of use for each coupon because they may vary.
