Make Your Own Color-Matched Tinted Moisturizer
Make Your Own Color-Matched Tinted Moisturizer

Mix your own tinted moisturizer matched to your exact skin tone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Daytime moisturizer with SPF
  • Liquid foundation
  1. Step 1

Find a liquid foundation that matches closely to your skin tone. Remember that "warm" skin tones (olive undertones, asian skin, etc) have yellow undertones while "cool" skin tones (fair skin, red heads, etc). If you aren't sure how to pick a color, use the link in the "resources" section below as a guide.

  2. Step 2

If you can't find your exact match (which can be difficult), notice that cosmetics usually have a number associated as the ID of the shade. Purchase the shade that is closest to your skin tone but slightly lighter and purchase the shade close in the ID that is one shade darker as well. You will use these to mix your own to match your shade.

  3. Step 3

Find a good moisturizer with SPF that you like. Try to find one that is SPF 15 and includes vitamin C and/or E. This way, you will both protect and enrich your skin while the tint you mix into it will apply light coverage.

  4. Step 4

Clean your face in the morning and put a dab (dime sized amount) of the moisturizer on your palm and add just 1 drop of the liquid foundation to it. If you need to, mix the liquid foundation colors earlier in a separate bottle with the light and dark shades until you find your ideal match. Mix the moisturizer and foundation on your palm together (do not try mixing the entire batch of foundation and moisturizer...do this daily instead since makeup will spoil just as food does!)

  5. Step 5

Rub the mixture of foundation and moisturizer all over your face--just as you would a moisturizer alone. If you want heavier coverage, add slightly larger drop of foundation (remember, you don't need too much foundation because the moisturizer will help it spread!) If you want lighter coverage use less foundation and add a larger drop of moisturizer before mixing on your palm.

  6. Step 6

Finally, don't forget to extend the tinted moisturizer past your chin line a bit so that it blends evenly to prevent looking like you are wearing a mask.
