Save Money While Buying Your Groceries

Follow these steps to cheaper groceries.

Things You'll Need:

  • Get creative and use all of your skills.
  1. Step 1

Before you leave...make a list from recipes you plan on using during the time period you have between shopping visits. For example, I shop every two weeks and have a list with a packet of recipes for that list.

  2. Step 2

Plan ahead for the days of lazy when you don't think cooking is going to be a pain. These are the days you pre-freeze casseroles or meals from left overs.

  3. Step 3

Make a list of the items you need in your house every week. Put it in clear vinyl folders and mark off when you run out of something. It saves you time while you make your lists and you don't find yourself buying more of something you don't need. I was stocking up on peanut butter without knowing one year. I could have spent that money on something else.

  4. Step 4

Find out what is locally grown and during what season, these ingredients tend to be cheaper. Freeze extras and jar others.

  5. Step 5

Check out your local ads first and find out about price matching, coupon doubling and reduced price sales. Plan your meals accordingly.

  6. Step 6

Don't be afraid to be the crazy woman with the coupons.

  7. Step 7

Turn the act of saving into a game and stay motivated by placing your savings in a savings account and watch it grow.

  8. Step 8

Everyone tells you this but no one listens, don't shop hungry or angry. Either way you aren't focused and will spend more.

  9. Step 9

Leave the kids and the hubby at home, any distraction from sales pricing and budget shopping and you will have a mess. Have fun saving!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make a game of this!
  • Don't hate your friends for being jealous of your savings!
