Threading is an ancient hair removal technique developed in the Middle East. It is an extremely quick method of hair removal that can be used on even the finest, shortest and thinnest hairs. Though it's mostly used to remove unwanted facial hair from the upper lip and eyebrows, threading can also be used to remove hair from anywhere on the body. Many people prefer this method to tweezing and waxing.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A 24-inch piece of string
  1. Step 1

Take a 24-inch piece of sewing thread and knot the two opposite ends together. You should have a circle of thread if done correctly.

  2. Step 2

Hold the circle of thread with both hands sort of like in a game of cat's cradle. Twist it in the middle to create an "8" shape, and wind the thread about 10 times, keeping the "8" shape intact.

  3. Step 3

Place the wound thread around the fingers of both hands, and start pushing the center, wound-up part of the thread toward one end by widening the fingers of one hand, while simultaneously closing the fingers of the other hand. This step is difficult and will require some practice. Keep pushing the wounded part back and forth until it is moving from one side to the other smoothly.

  4. Step 4

Practice on a part of your body that is easy to reach. The legs are a great starting point if this is your first time threading hair. Place the thread on the portion of your leg you want to remove hair from, and make sure the thread surrounds the hair completely. Move the wound-up part back and forth against the hairs, making sure you catch the hairs in the thread. This motion will remove the hairs directly from the root.

  5. Step 5

After you've practiced on your leg, move on to the more challenging areas, such as the upper lip and eyebrows.

Tips & Warnings
  • After threading, apply some body lotion or moisturizer on the spot to soothe the redness.
  • Remember that practice makes perfect. Keep at it until you're able to thread hair with ease.
