Step 1
First two steps• Every dive begins with a consistent approach. A good approach starts with two steps with heavy arm swing. This is followed by a jump off of one foot toward the end of the board, landing with both feet on the end of the board, and then jumping. In order to find a good starting point for your approach begin at the end of the board and do your approach backwards.

Step 2
• Once you are comfortable with this approach try doing a basic flip. If you can’t do a flip, then I am sorry to tell you that you can’t do a one and a half. Be sure to get far enough away from the board while flipping, and always try this with an onlooker that is an able swimmer (incase something happens). An onlooker can also help critique your flip.

Step 3
Before final bounce• While approaching to do a flip your hands should rise above your head and stay as you are jumping off of one foot. You will then land on two feet at the end of the board with your hands still above your head, get a good bounce, snap your arms from above your head to your waist, and tuck your legs into your body. This will rotate you around.

Step 4
• Once your flips come natural the next step is to hold your leg tuck a little longer, get a stronger jump off the board, and swing your arms down harder. Once you commit yourself to all these things you will be able to do a one and a half.
