Things You'll Need:
- A yoga mat
-
Step 1
Select a yoga mat which is large enough to accomodate a wide range of postures and extensions. Taller people may want to consider a mat with extra length like the manduka black mat.
-
Step 2
Select a mat with enough cushioning to protect spine, knees, elbows, and other body parts that frequently make contact with the floor during a yoga session.
-
Step 3
Choose a mat based on the type of yoga practiced. A universal good quality mat is sufficient for a gentler practice like Kripalu yoga, whereas an intensely physical, and sweaty Bikram yoga session warrants a thick yoga mat with superior traction. Look for a link in the resource section for a description of different types of yoga.
-
Step 4
Consider investing in a quality yoga mat for durability. Quality yoga mats, made with superior material withstand wear and tear better than cheaper mats that may have to replaced more often.
-
Step 5
Consider investing in an eco-friendly yoga mat that is made from a renewable source like rubber. Eco-friendly mats are designed to decompose completely in a landfill, and they don't contain chemicals that artificially provide stickiness in conventional yoga mats.
