This is also a must do for anyone who is chemically sensitive. The instructions in most carpet cleaning machines will tell you that you must use the shampoo that came with it.This just isn't true. Look online and in stores for chemical free, non-toxic, all natural carpet shampoos. They are becoming increasingly common and will work in virtually any carpet cleaning machine.

Use plain water. Many spills or dirty areas can be readily cleaned by just using water. Pour water on a new stain and suck up the liquid with the carpet cleaning machine.

Keep a spray bottle of your natural carpet shampoo handy. Any time there is a spill, spray it right away. Then come back when you have time and clean it properly with your carpet cleaning machine. Also pre treat any stained areas and high traffic areas approximately 15 minutes prior to cleaning with your carpet machine.
