How to make a Filipino Christmas Star also known as a "Philippine Parol"

Celebrating Christmas in the Philippines is a very huge occassion because it is the birth of our Almight Jesus Christ. Making this very special Philippine Parol resembles the Blessed star of Bethlehem. For Filipino's who have not made a Parol or hang all over the house makes Christmas feel incomplete. It is a traditional that all Filipinos must have on this very special occassion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1.) Two 32 inches bamboo strips.
  • 2.) Ruler
  • 3.) Five 3 inches wire strips
  • 4.) 10 1/2 inches wire strips
  • 5.) Tape
  • 6.) Thread
  • 7.) Glue
  • 8.) Pencil (For out lining)
  • 9.) Scissors
  • 10.)Tinsel
  • 11.)Colorful gift wrapping paper "24x24"
  1. Step 1

    First use the thread to tie the ends of each bamboo strip together, in which forming two circles.

    Second use the two circles and one of the five 7 inches wire strips to make a frame by trusting the ends of each wire strip around the bamboo circles.

  3. Step 3

    Then carefully fold the colorful paper in half. Draw the shape of a five pointed star and cut it out. Their should be a total of two stars.

    Finally, glue one star to each side of the circular frame. The other five and 7 inches wires to the five points where the angles of the star touch the wire frame. Then attach the five three inches wires to the tips of the star so the star bulges and that the star is finally completed!

Tips & Warnings
  • 1.) Tie some thread to one of these wires to help secure of the bamboo sticks edges.
  • 2.) Use some sort of cellophone to smooth out the frame and maintain its structure.
  • 3.) Add some paste moving from side to side moving from back to front to maintain the sticking.
  • 4.) Suggest using the colors that could bring out the beauty of the Beloved Bethlehem Star considering using Red or White!
