Step 1
NovasureAn endometrial ablation is procedure where the lining of the uterus is removed or destroyed. Usually it is done as an outpatient procedure with little time required for recovery. It is an alternative to hysterectomy for many women. If the ablation is successful, most women have little or no menstrual bleeding.
-
Step 2
Typically the success rate is between 70-80%. Up to 10% of women have no bleeding at all.
-
Step 3
Novasure is called the 90 second procedure. During this procedure you are given a local general or local anesthetic, and a sheath containing the electrode is inserted into the uterine cavity.
-
Step 4
RollerballNext, CO2 inflates the uterus to help the physician properly place the device.
-
Step 5
The physician then turns on the device that can automatically detect when enough of the lining has been treated.
-
Step 6
There are other forms of treatment such as the 'balloon ablation" where a balloon releases hot water into the uterus. Also, the spectroscopic endometrial ablation with rollerball has a built in wire loop that uses high-frequency electrical energy to cut or coagulate tissue.
-
Step 7
The recovery from an endometrial ablation is usually short and consists of rest and sometimes a mild pain reliever. Most women return to their normal schedule the following week.
-
Step 8
There are several sites you can research the procedure online. Also, viewing or joining a forum of women who have had or will have the procedure is a great way to learn about it.
