Choosing a topic, wow, this is exciting. "I have actually reached the point of choosing a topic" this is how you must be feeling. The topic is quite hard to crack if you waited that long to think of it. As this is the first step in any dissertation, the topic is equally important as the dissertation itself. Take my advice and just follow your instincts and you'll find your way to an appropriate and meaningful topic. You can use the criteria in this article to assist you to choose a dissertation topic. Do significant research to make sure this topic has not been done before, is creative, original and innovative.

    The major factor that helps you choose a topic and write the dissertation is your mood towards the topic. If you choose a topic that you find both fascinating and socially significant, it will encourage you all through the paper, so make sure you choose something that pleases you Start by choosing a general area of inquiry within your program that you have found especially interesting. It is no good doing a on a topic that does not interest you. Then it is probably better to choose an area in which you are interested, than an area in which you happen to have achieved good marks on a term paper (although obviously this will often overlap).

    Keep in mind that your topic is a work in progress, and allow yourself to be flexible. It's inevitable that some aspects of your topic will change as you progress in your research and writing. With this in mind, you also should not ignore the impact your topic should place on the readers. A good adviser will help you narrow down your topic .When picking a topic keep in mind your career path. Choose a topic that will help in your career and will market you in your near future. Your topic should build upon your theory and most importantly expand upon it.

    When you're choosing your topic, be sensitive and mature about it. Many highly educated people in your field will go through your work, try not to push their buttons to far by coming up with a controversial topic that might restrict your employment, tenure, or publishing opportunities. Think carefully before you choose a controversial topic.

    Choose a topic that you already have some expertise about. This will help you have an easier time doing research as you already have some material such as coursework and class papers. So, generally, it will help you write your dissertation or thesis. Try to choose a manageable topic.

    Since dissertations generally take longer than you imagine completing, choosing a topic that can sustain your interest over a lengthy period of time is a very important point. Otherwise, you will lose your enthusiasm and come to abhor working on your project.
