Step 1
Click "Start"

Click "Run"

Type "Regedit" and then "ok."

A window should pop up that says "Registry Editor" Click on the + signs next to the folder to expand folders and navigate. First click on the + next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and then continue as follows.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced.
When you get to Advanced, click on the actual name. -
Step 5
Right Click on an empty space in the right hand column. Choose "New" and then Choose "DWORD Value"

Type in "EnableBalloonTips"

Double Click on "EnableBalloonTips." Enter 0 into the space (there should already be a zero and press enter.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have now removed WinXP taskbar balloon popups.

Scroll up to find "StartButtonBalloonTip" and double click on it. Enter zero and submit. You have now removed Balloon Popups from the Start Button area (left side of taskbar)

Scroll up to find "ShowInfoTip" and double click on it. Enter zero and submit. You have now removed WinXP Balloon Popups from descriptions from folders and icons.

You will now repeat step 5. This time type in "FolderContentsInfoTip". Double click and enter 0 for the value. This will remove WinXP Balloon Popups from folder contents.

Click on the - sign next to "Advanced" in the left Column. You will now repeat step 5. This time type in "NoSMBalloonTip". Double click and enter 1 for the value. This will remove WinXP Balloon Popups from inside the start menu.

We will switch folders again use the +/- signs to navigate to'
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings -
Step 14
Repeat Step 5 two times to create "EnableBalloonNotificationsLocal" and "EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote." Double click and put in a zero for both settings. You have now removed WinXP Balloon Popups from the printer spooler section.

If you have accomplished some of these steps or all of your steps congratulate yourself. You have successfully made popups stop on your computer. You will have a much cleaner Win Xp with disable popups.
