Make a Great Cup of Coffee

A great cup of coffee isn't just scooping beans into a filter and pushing start. To truly enjoy your coffee to it's fullest you must respect the beans. All coffee beans are not created equal is the number one rule to follow. A truly good cup of coffee requires a little more care and time. There are many varieties of coffee beans on the market, but the best beans are the ones that make you happy when you smell their aroma. So, in essense, your must choose for yourself. Coffea arabica are richer and more flavorful than Coffea robusta. Example of Arabicas are Colombian, Kona, Costa Rican, Uganda, Blue Mountain and so on. But since most of us are restricted to the local supermarket you may not be familiar with these beans. However, if you're feeling a little adventurous try taking a trip to your local farmer's market. There you will discover a cornucopia of coffee bean choices to tantalize your every taste buds. Once you have chosen you choice bean, buy a good coffee grinder. You can purchase a good grinder for anywhere between 25.00 to over a hundred. Try 2 b a snob (2basnob.com)or beverage Factory(.com) to find help. Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase a good coffee maker, if you do not already have one. The brand is up to you. I prefer coffee makers with a water filter built in from brands like Braun or Cuisinart.

  2. Step 2

Purchase coffee filters that offer more flavor such as melitta flavor pores brown filters. They have larger pores allowing for more flavor to pass through and they're unbleached.

  3. Step 3

Store your beans in an airtight container in a cool location. This will ensure they last a long time and stay fresher.

  4. Step 4

Place your beans in your grinder and grind until fine. Measure out 1 tablespoon of coffee for every two cups of water. More for stronger coffee. Grinding your beans fresh can make a huge difference in taste.

  5. Step 5

Add cold filtered or spring water to your coffee maker. Water must be very cold and pure. Cold filtered water makes the freshest tasting coffee there is, so go cold. Do not put cold water in your carafe and then start machine. The carafe will crack once the hot coffee hits it so, pour your water directly from a jug or bottle.

  6. Step 6

Last, enjoy with your favorite added ingredients like milk, cream, sugar or half and half. Whatever you like. It will be the best tasting coffee you have ever had from your own kitchen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not place your beans in the refrigerator or in a humid place. The cold will dry the oils in your beans.
  • Pour water from a jug to your machine.
