Things You'll Need:
- Pitching wedge, sand wedge, and lob wedge if needed.
-
Step 1
Be sure to learn from a qualified professional. For most golfers, it is best to use a pitching wedge. Your swing will be shorter similar to a 1/2 shot. Your set up should be: the ball in the center of the stance and your weight shifted slightly towards the target with your hands towards the inner left thigh. You will have an athletic position with your upper body being towards the ball and your knees will be slightly bent. If you are using a PW, you will feel like you are over the ball quite a bit.
-
Step 2
When swinging the golf club back, remember to rotate the shoulders and extend the left arm (if your right handed). Swing back with the thumbs working their way towards the sky. This will hinge the wrists and help place the club and arms in the proper place. It should feel like everything is working together. The right elbow will be pointing down towards the ground, but your arms will begin to extend outward.
-
Step 3
Your follow through will include a shoulder rotation with your right shoulder swinging under the chin and your arms should extend out towards the target. As you swing through the ball you want to maintain an upper body tilt towards where the ball was at impact. Try to take a divot or slight divot when making contact with the ball. Always hold your finish at the end of the swing.
