Things You'll Need:
- A Baby
- A Computer and internet connection
- Time to do a bit of research
-
Step 1
Is there a difference? No, there really is not much difference between bassinets and cradles.
Both are small and temporary, both are used for only a short time and both can be moved from room to room.
The difference?
A cradle is usually a little heavier making it a slight bit bulkier to move around. Most cradles will also rock back and forth while bassinets are typically stationary. -
Step 2
If you decide to purchase a bassinet or a cradle, remember these few simple things:
Make sure the bassinet or cradle has a wide base and has been constructed in a sturdy manner.
Make sure the space between the slats or spindles is no more than 2 3/8 inches.
Make sure that if you chose a model that has wheels, the wheels can lock in place. -
Step 3
Aesthetic things you may like but need to be checked on:
If you decide to choose one that has a hood, make sure it folds back. If it doesn't fold back it may get in the way when putting the child down to sleep.
Today, many bassinets and cradles are sold along with bedding. Please remember, the bedding is for decoration only. Leaving any type of soft bedding in with your sleeping baby can be a potential suffocation hazard.
