Select a Diaper Bag

Like many other baby-related items, there are a TON of options when it comes to selecting a diaper bag. A diaper bag can be a very useful commodity, but only if properly selected. Here are some hints to help you select a great diaper bag for your needs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine how big your diaper bag needs to be to suit your personal needs. Are you going to use it as your purse as well as a diaper bag? Are you carrying a change of baby clothes, some diapers, some wipes, some toys, formula, bottles, a burp cloth...? Determining exactly what you intend to keep in your diaper bag is an important part of selecting the proper bag for you. Bigger is not always better, but having too little space is also a problem.

  2. Step 2

Decide how rugged you need your bag to be. Some bags "close" by having a flap fasten to the front of the bag with Velcro or magnets, and some have zippers. If you think the bag will be tossed around (in the case of traveling, perhaps), you will want one that won't pop open and spill its contents.

  3. Step 3

When looking at bags, make sure you open the bag up and observe how much space is inside. Some bags can look deceiving, appearing to be large when they actually have very little space inside. You can find some items to put into the bag (a small container of wipes, a change of baby clothes, some toys) to see how well it fits these items.

  4. Step 4

Pay attention to the weight of the empty bag. If it already feels heavy, imagine how it will feel when you pack it full of baby supplies.

  5. Step 5

Look for a bag with a wider strap, they will be much more comfortable over your shoulder than a bag with a smaller strap.

  6. Step 6

When you have narrowed your search down, finally take the time to choose a bag that appeals to you. A pricier bag does not necessarily mean a better bag, but a style that compliments your own will not detract from your ensemble.
