Flautas are a delicious Mexican dish. Traditionally flautas are made by placing a filling in a flour tortilla, rolling up and deep frying in oil. I was first motivated to try oven frying flautas because deep frying them came out too oily, I was pleasantly surprised how crispy and light tasting they came out after oven frying. Follow these directions for oven frying and enjoy a more healthier meal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 T butter
  • basting or BBQ brush
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Step 2

Melt butter in a sauce pan on the stove top.

  3. Step 3

Prepare your fluatas as usual and arrange together on one baking tray or pan. Choose a whole wheat, trans-fat free tortilla for additional health benefits.

  4. Step 4

Coat basting or BBQ brush with melted butter and spread over the tops of the flautas. If they do not fit snug together in the tray or pan then coat around the sides as well.

  5. Step 5

Bake in your 400 degree oven for 25 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use margarine if you like but real butter is actually healthier for you.
  • This method works for Chimichangas too!
