Pets are wonderful companions however, vet bills, food, and other supplies can place a financial strain on some Americans. There are some ways that you can enjoy your pets, keep them healthy and happy without spending a fortune. Many Americans have Dogs and Cats as household pets. I believe during the first few years of their life they do need vetinary care and they should receive all of their required shots. However, after afew years, I feel the animal has built up certain immunities to diseases and doesn't require frequent trips to the vet unless they are very ill.

  2. Step 2

If you own a cat and keep it in doors; more than likely the animal will not contract any diseases or infections unless it accidentally gets outside. Vet bills can cost a fortune, so if you can avoid a costly trip to the clinic you will save a great deal of money. Many times what I have found; if you are an established customer with a vet they will provide medications without seeing the animal. This is provided nothing life threatening is taking place with the animal. In this situation, all the consumer is paying for is the medicine.

  3. Step 3

By feeding your Cat or Dog dry food is a real money saver. I do feed my cats wet food once in a while as a treat. Dry food tends to be a bit healthier for pets. In addition, if you have cats try purchasing a less expensive kitty litter. Most name brand kitty litters can cost up to $8. If you purchase an inexpensive kitty litter you can add baking soda to the mixture for additional odor control. If you read the labels on most kitty litter; baking soda is the main ingredient which is already added to the litter mixture.
