I went to my girlfriend's house to have scripture study, and she gave me a bag filled with a yellow liquidy dough like substance and told me about the Amish friendship bread.
From my simple instructions, you too can make this Amish friendship bread starter, then look at my next article for further instructions as to make the bread itself.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • time
  • clean kitchen
  • 1 package of active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  1. Step 1

First dump one package of your active dry yeast in the 1/4 cup warm water in a small bowl. Let it sit there and dissolve for about 15minutes. You can stir it a little to help it along at that point if it isn't fully dissolved.

  2. Step 2

Take your medium sized plastic or glass bowl (whatever just as long as it is not metal because metal destroys the yeast and if left long enough will give a metalic taste to your bread) and put in: a cup of flour, cup of sugar, and mix well. (I sifted mine to ensure it would mix well). If you don't mix it well, the flour will lump when the milk is added. After mixing, add the cup of milk by slowly stirring it in. Cover the bowl loosely and let the mixture stand until it begins to bubble.

  3. Step 3

Take a ziplock bag and using a magic marker, write what date you started it on it. Then dump the starter (the mix) into the ziplock bag and mush the bag. (See my next article if you want to make the bread.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Just follow these simple instructions and you will do fine.
  • If your ziplock starts to rise with gas, let the gas out and shut again.
  • Do Not Refrigerate!!!
  • Use this to make new friends or strengthen existing friendships.
  • This would be a fun project for your teenage daughters to do with their friends too. (If they like this sort of thing)
  • See my next article if you want to make the bread.
  • I cannot be liable for any damages which may incur.
