Want to try a new cocktail? Learning to be a better host? You will need to know this one if you plan on bar tending!

Let's jump into making a Manhattan!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Whiskey (3-4 oz)
  • Sweet Vermouth (1/2-1oz)
  • Bitters
  • Shaker
  • Ice
  • Jigger (optional)
  1. Step 1

Decide whether it is going to be "up" (just the drink) or "on the rocks" (with ice). If you are making the drink for someone else, make sure you ask their preferences.

  2. Step 2

Prepare your shaker by filling it about 3/4 of the way with ice.

  3. Step 3

Pour in 3-4 oz of Whiskey. You can estimate if you'd like, however, if you are new to making drinks I suggest using a "jigger" which is a common bar tending tool that allows you to measure ounces.

  4. Step 4

Now give it about 1 oz of Sweet Vermouth, unless the drinker asks for more.

  5. Step 5

Give the concoction about 2-3 dashes of Bitters. Some drinkers may want a dash of Grenadine, but do not put it in unless they ask for it.

  6. Step 6

Put a lid on the shaker and give it about four good shakes. If you do not have a shaker you can pull of a bit of makeshift prestidigitation by using two glasses and pouring it back and fourth a few times.

If it is on the rocks pour it into a Rocks Glass with the ice. If it is "up" then strain the cocktail into a Martini Glass. If you do not have a strainer, use a fork.

  7. Step 7
Use candied cherries as a garnish

Garnish with a cocktail cherry, and serve with a smile!
