Program a GE Universal Remote
Program a GE Universal Remote

Lost your Remote? Need help programming your GE Universal Remote? Most TV's, VCR's, DVD Player's, Cable and Satellite Boxes will work with a GE universal remote. There is still a chance that your component will not be compatible with the remote. For a list of the codes scroll down to resources and click on the link that applies to you. Follow these steps and we will hopefully get your remote working like new.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • GE Universal Remote
  1. Step 1

Manually turn the device on you want to program.

  2. Step 2

Press and hold setup until the light stays on, then release the button.

  3. Step 3

Press the button on the remote of the device you want to program. (EXAMPLE: TV, VCR, DVD, CBL/SAT)

  4. Step 4

Enter the 3 digit code from the list for the device you want programmed. (Some devices might have more then one 3 digit code. Start with the first code) After you enter a code the light will turn off. (For a list of codes scroll down to resources and click on the link that applies to you.)

  5. Step 5

Aim your remote at the device and hit power, your device should turn off. (If the device doesn't turn off start over and move on to the next 3 digit code.) Turn you device back on with the remote and try your volume and channel buttons just to verify everything is working properly.

  6. Step 6

If none of the codes worked for you continue with the next step.

  7. Step 7

Manually turn on the device you want to program.

  8. Step 8

Press and hold setup until the light stays on, then release the button.

  9. Step 9

Press the button on the remote of the device you want to program. (EXAMPLE: TV, VCR, DVD, CBL/SAT)

  10. Step 10

Press and release the power button until your device turns off. Wait a couple seconds before each time you press power. (This is going through a code search with your remote, you might have to press the power button up to 250 times.)

  11. Step 11

When your device turns off press enter. The light on the remote should go off.

  12. Step 12

If neither of the steps worked for you then your device is not compatible with that GE Universal Remote.
