on 7/5/2009 Ajuga has a very shallow root system, it grows close to the surface of the ground...Whereas other plants have a deep root system. So in answer to your question hollygarden no it does not compete with other plants for nutrients. Of course I would recommend feeding all plants with a a water based fertilizer such as miracle grow and spray-n-grow throughout the growing season for best results. That way all plants will flourish:)

on 7/5/2009 Should ajuga be allowed to grow among plants in a flower garden? Would it be beneficial to the garden or would it smother and take nutrients from the flowers?
