Learn ways to increase your breastmilk supply.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fenugreek Herbs (can buy at GNC)
  • Oatmeal
  • Breast Pump
  1. Step 1

Every woman's body produces milk after giving birth. At first your milk supply will be abundant. Your body will even out your supply after a few weeks to meet your baby's needs. At first the drop in breast milk can be scary, but don't worry, it's natural. As long as your baby is wetting at least 6 diapers a day after the first week of life, he is getting enough food. You may have a need to store your breast milk for when you return to work or when you have a babysitter. Here are ways to do this.

  2. Step 2

The best way to increase your supply is to breastfeed more often. Your body will respond to the baby's sucking and the skin-to-skin contact.
Fenugreek herbs (available at GNC or other health food stores) is safe for you and for baby. You can take 3 pills, 3 times per day. It is safe to take during the entire time you are lactating.
Eating oatmeal is another natural way to increase your supply. Do NOT use honey!! This can be dangerous for baby: honey for children under 1 is linked to botulism.(American Academy of Pediatrics)

  3. Step 3

Another way to increase your milk supply is to use a breast pump. You can pump in-between feedings. Your body will produce more. Pumping also provides you a way to store breast milk for later use.
ONE dark beer a day can stimulate your milk supply. ONE only. A good beer for this is Guinness: it has riboflavens also.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find a local Lactation Consultant.
  • Contact the local La Leche League in your area. (www.llli.org)
  • Drink ONE and ONLY ONE beer if you are going to breastfeed that day.
