Step 1
Chaining: start with a slip knot. pull the yarn around the hook, this is called a yarn over.now pull the bottom loop over the top of the hook, but keep the top loop in place. one chain complete. repeat multiple times. use the loop on the hook instead of a slip knot.

Slip stitch, abbreviated "s st": start with a chain. put your hook into the chain next to the hook. yarn over, and pull off the bottom 2 loops on the hook. repeat multiple times.

single crochet stitch, abbreviated "sc": start with a chain. put your hook into the first chain. yarn over, and pull up the second loop on your hook. yarn over, and pull it through the last 2 loops on your hook.

half double crochet stitch, ab. "hdc": start with a chain. yarn over. put your hook in a chain. yarn over. pull throgh 2nd loop on hook. yarn over. pull throgh 2nd, 3rd, and 4th loops.
