This article will hopefully improve your torrent download speeds, it is aimed at those with a moderate knowledge of downloading.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A torrent client e.g. uTorrent
  • A internet connection
  1. Step 1

First of all we need to do a speed test, so we can see approximately what download speeds you are getting.
You can do this here: http://www.speedtest.net/.

  2. Step 2

Please make a note of your download speed. Now we need to download a file which will allow us to change the maximum number TCP connection as on XP SP2 it's limited to 10. The file can be found here: http://torrentfreak.com/static/EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip

  3. Step 3

Open this file with Win RAR and double click 'EvID4226Patch.exe'. This will open a DOS style window (A little black window) asking us if we want to change the limit to 10, type 'C' because we want to another number.

  4. Step 4

Now we have to enter the number we want, any number between 75-100 is good. It now asks us if we are sure we want to do this, type 'Y'.

  5. Step 5

Next it wants to know if it can rename the file until to the end of patching, seen as if we click no it aborts, type 'Y'.

  6. Step 6

Now it will do a countdown at which around halfway through a little window will appear asking us to insert our Windows CD, DONT PANIC!.
Just click 'Cancel' and then 'Yes'. Now click any key to exit.

  7. Step 7

Restart your computer and open up your torrent client.

  8. Step 8

Now we need to find the 'Settings' or 'Options' normally under 'Tools'.

  9. Step 9

We now need to find the field where we can change the TCP / UDP port.
Inside here you should type a number such as 8095 but it can be any number between 1 and 47808 although some are better than others and some are blocked or reserved, that is new branch which should be looked up.

  10. Step 10

Now restart your computer and your all done

Tips & Warnings
  • It is important to cap your upload speed to about 10% of your maximum download speed e.g. Download speed = 400 kbps , Upload speed = 25 kbps
  • Always check the Seeds and Peers, the more Seeds in comparison with Peers the better
  • You are replacing windows systems files with your 'Patched' versions of them, this could lead to more viruses etc unless you have security but it is a must for Hard downloaders.
  • We do not encourage the downloading of illegal torrents, you should always check to see if what you are doing is legal!
