1 credit for the particular image of the roaches.

Roaches. They seem to be everywhere. Just because ya got em.....does not mean that you are filthy! It is true, when you see one you automatically think "oh my goodness!! A ROACH!! Did I leave food out over night? .... I wonder if it was those crumbs in the floor from the baby? Oh no, I am infested!" That is very easy to assume, and most of the time, you probably are infested. I have always heard that once you spot one (german cockroach, the one's that really multiply big time), then you are infested. But it is not the end of your dwelling... Read on..

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 jar of peanut butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 can of boric acid powder
  1. Step 1
German Cockroaches... most likely the only insect to be alive after a nuclear bombing

First thing's first. You need to know if you are indeed in danger of having roaches. Most everyone is. But be calm, it is usually nothing that you have done, they are just a part of nature, just a VERY ANNOYING part of nature. They can survive and live in almost any climate, so that makes them probable anywhere on earth. They are indeed the most adaptable insect that exists. So, if you suspect an infestation, you may need to be aware that they are most fond of starches, sweets, grease, meat products, cheese, beer, baked goods, and plant materials. Just be aware of that first and foremost.

  2. Step 2
Come out come out I know that you are probably in my kitchen!!

Come out come out I know that you are probably in my kitchen!!

Now that you know that piece of information, might I also inform you that their preference is in cracks and crevices. Which makes them a huge candidate for being stationed in your kitchen. The main place NOT for anything to be but food. They do carry disease. I know that you do not want to imagine this, but once they get on your food, they do lay droppings and eggs. Something that you do not want to ingest. Now, One of the best ways to bring them out of their hiding places is to get an empty (almost empty, rather) jar of peanut butter and pour about 1 cup of sugar into it and let it sit out over night. (That is when they usually come out for food.) Once they get into the jar, guess what? They cannot get out because they are stuck!! Now, that is one good way.

  3. Step 3

Set off some bombs! Leave the house for about 4 to 8 hours 1 weekend morning and let the fumes get into those cracks and crevices. That is a very good way to rid those little pesks out of your house! You can buy bombs from any Lowes store or Home Depot. Just go up to the counter and tell them what you are looking for. Just make sure that you take out or cover up all of your perishable food items and any toys that may go into a child's mouth and things like that.

  4. Step 4
    It really does kill roaches.

If you prefer a different route, then you may want to try using Boric Acid. You can purchase Boric Acid at most Walmart stores, Home Depot, K-mart, Lowes, Target, Ect. It is not that expensive and only costs a few bucks. This is a sure remedy to get rid of the roaches. This is very highly effective. Just get some and sprinkle it on the outside all the way around your house, once every 3 months. You may also use it inside, but please use with care. Make sure that you do not ingest this stuff. If you have small children, please leave them with a sitter. You may sprinkle this stuff along all crevices and cracks that you may think they are hiding. Closets, drawers, behind the fridge, under the sink.. anywhere, just make sure that you remove everything that is touchable! Remember that it does not take much of this stuff to kill them. Well, GOOD LUCK!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you use the Boric Acid with care and read all warning labels.
  • Be sure to cover up all perishable items and toys before setting off roach bombs.
  • Only use the peanut butter to check to see if there could possibly be more roaches in your home. Don't be surprised although if there are.

  • Pesticides and Boric acid are not to used around children.
  • If you inspect a very bad infestation, please contact a professional.
