Have you ever wanted to get the signatures of your favorite celebrities? The fact is that most actors, athletes, singers, comedians, etc. are more than willing to sign autographs through the mail.

In this article, you will learn the basics of making this happen: the format of the letter, things to say in the letter, the right kind of envelopes, how long to wait, etc.

Just follow these simple instructions and you will be on your way to building an autograph collection that will be the envy of those around you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, make a list of all the celebrities you are interested in writing. Then go to a website such as http://www.fanmail.biz This site has thousands upon thousands of celebrity addresses. In addition, it contains a feedback forum where users post successes and failures. Best of all, it is absolutely free!

  2. Step 2

It is always better to have a genuine interest in the celebrity you are writing. Keep in mind that these folks are extremely busy all of the time. If they are willing to take the time to read their fan mail, we owe it to them to be the real deal in the letter. Also, many celebrities will catch on quickly if you are just looking to score a quick signature and do not really care about them.

  3. Step 3

While being genuine is important, it is also essential to not ramble on in your letter. Keep the letter short, concise and to the point. In addition, you must always tell the celebrity what you want. If you want an autograph, say it in the letter. If you want it personalized, say it in the letter. A sample letter that would work can be found in Step 3.

  4. Step 4

    February 6, 2009

    Dear Mr. Redford:

Hello, my name is Michael. I live in Louisville, KY and I have been a big fan of yours for many years. I love all of your movies, especially Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid as well as Up Close And Personal with Michelle Pfeiffer. In addition, I especially admire the way you have used your God-given talent to support and benefit worthy causes, such as the environment.

I was wondering if you might be able to send me and autographed photo. I would love to hang it in my home for the whole world to see. I know you must be incredibly busy. If you are unable to meet my request I certainly understand. If you are able to meet my request, please make it out to "Michael". I have included a SASE with sufficient return postage.

Thank you so much for your time. Please keep up the good work!

    Sincerely,

    Michael Melton

  5. Step 5

After writing your letter, address a 10x13 envelope to the celebrity. Make sure to use the address found from the web site mentioned in Step 1. Place sufficient postage on the outside of the envelope. Make sure to use enough postage to get your letter to it's desired destination.

  6. Step 6

Address a 10x13 envelope to yourself. This is the SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) mentioned in the sample letter from Step 4. Again, make sure you have provided sufficient postage to get the reply back to your desired address.

  7. Step 7

Place the letter to the celebrity and the SASE into the originally 10x13 envelope addressed to the celebrity. Also, you will want to include any picture or item that you want signed. (This is not always necessary, as many celebrities will send a photo themselves). Seal the envelope and drop it in the mail.

Tips & Warnings
  • The wait for a celebrity autograph varies from just a few days to even a few years.
  • Join the forum on www.fanmail.biz for excellent discussion and feedback on the latest celebrity addresses.
  • Don't get discouraged.
  • Be careful when sending items to be signed. There is always a chance that an address could be bad or that you will not get the items back. It would be a shame to lose a valued item. As mentioned earlier, many celebrity have their own photos that they are willing to sign and send to you.
  • To avoid having this happen to you, used the forums at fanmail.biz to your advantage
