Starting a clothing line can be a challenging process. I started my clothing line around two years ago and its finally starting to get the attention is deserves. It will take long hours and hard work to make a successful line profitable. I'm willing to share all my secrets in this article.

Decide what you want to call your clothing line. A name can make or break your company. A logo can also be very important with defining your image and brand.

  2. Step 2

Hire a graphic designer to start designing your clothing line. This may take multiple time to find the right look. Always trust your gut on the look you want. When it comes down to it, you have to be inspired by your line.

  3. Step 3

Once you have the design you want, you will need to hire a screen printer to start printing your clothes(shirts, hats, shorts, jackets). There are a few different ways to print your logo and design. Decide what's going to work the best for you and your budget. Screen printing and a heat press are just a few of the different ways to print on clothes.

  4. Step 4

I highly recommend using CafePress.com in the beginning. This is a website where you can download your design for free and see how it looks on shirts, hats, mugs, etc. You can start selling them on this site as long as you have Paypal account. Simple and easy to set up.

  5. Step 5

Once you feel your clothing line can go the next level you may need to hire a sales rep that actively goes out and promotes your line. Street fairs, expos in your industry, and an ecommerce website can be all the difference in marketing your line.

  6. Step 6

Trademarks and Copyrights are essential in protecting your brand. Hire an attorney if you want this done correctly.

  7. Step 7

You must enjpoy and have fun with your clothing line. If your continually stressed, this may not be the right business for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Define your target market
  • Shop screen printers and graphic designers to find the best price
  • Never stop believing in your idea
  • Do not over spend
  • Stay Positive
