After you have bought your new HDTV, you are wondering how to get HD programming. Getting HD programming is fairly simple, and depending on what kind of channels you are looking for, you can get the upgrade for free.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First determine what programming you currently have. Does your current service provider have HD programming? If they do, find out how much will it cost per month, and how much it will cost to upgrade. You will want to look at different packages that best suit you.

  2. Step 2

If your current provider doesn't have HD, then the choice is simple. If they do provide HD, make them upgrade your receiver for free. If they do not, tell them that you are switching to another provider that will offer a free upgrade. This will usually convince them to upgrade your receiver for free. If it doesn't convince them, switch to a different provider and get new, free equipment.

  3. Step 3

Set up the appointment. The technician will come out and install the new receiver to your HDTV. They will provide all the necessary cables. Make sure to demand free installation as well. These companies will do this for your business.

  4. Step 4

Start enjoying your new HD programming. The monthly cost may go up, depending on whether you switched providers and what kind of package you get. There is one thing for sure, HD is worth the extra $10 a month. Crystal clear picture and sound. Doesn't get much better than that.

Tips & Warnings
  • Service providers usually have packages listed online. You can also order service online and usually get a better discount.
