How to respond to a Freecycle ad

How to respond to a Freecycle adthumbnail
Freecycle is like an online garage sale where everything is free.

Freecycle is an online message board where people can post ads for items that they want to give away for free. Everything on Freecycle is entirely free, and there is a certain etiquette involved in both posting and answering ads on Freecycle. It is up to the poster to provide real information about the product and when and where it needs to be picked up at. The interested party has a different set of rules.

    Instructions

    1. Responding to a Freecyle Ad

      • 1

Go to the Freecycle website and create an account in the city where you live, or the closest one to you.

      • 2

Scour the ads for free items in your area.

      • 3

Claim an item by posting that you will go get it immediately, and ask for a meeting place. Reply to a Freecycle ad only if you really intend to get the item. Do not waste people's time by saying you want the item or that you are interested, if you have no intention of going to pick up the item that day.

      • 4

Go to the person's house to view the item. If you ask for more information about the item, chances are someone will beat you to it. Go to the person's house instead if you want more information. Remember, the item is free, so it will go fast.

      Freecycle Etiquette

      • 1

Don't ask a person to hold an item. There are no dibs when it comes to Freecycle.

      • 2

Show up on time. Freecyclers can be aggressive, and if you do not show up on time, there could be another person who will snag your newly claimed free item. Also, it is rude to keep people waiting, particularly when they are giving you something for free. Be nice, and be on time.

      • 3

Post on Freecycle that you have picked up the item so that no others will go to the person's house. The poster should say that the item has been picked up, but if they don't it's courteous for you to do so.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Only respond if you are 100 percent sure you want the item and will get it that day.

    • Go with a friend to pick up an item.
