There's nothing like a nice, hot cup of hot cocoa to take the chill off your bones on a cold, winter day. But why not skip the powdered mix and treat yourself to some delicious, rich, homemade hot cocoa? Believe me, this tastes so much more better than the powdered stuff.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 Hersheys Chocolate Bar
  • 1 Cup Hot Water
  • 3 Cups Milk
  • Pinch of Nutmeg
  • Pinch of Cinnamon
  • Whipped cream
  1. Step 1

Combine the hot water and milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Do not bring to a full boil.

  2. Step 2

Break the chocolate bar into small pieces and add it to the hot liquid. Add the cocoa powder and sugar as well. Stir with a whisk.

  3. Step 3

Keep stirring until there are no solid pieces of chocolate left. Add a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon to taste.

  4. Step 4

Remove from heat, and pour into mugs. Add whipped cream or marshmellows on top and sprinkle with cinnamon and cocoa powder.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy! I recommend pairing the hot cocoa with a big plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies :)!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also add in crushed mint candy, caramel, vanilla, or white chocolate to taste.
  • For a richer taste cut half the portion of milk, and substitute it for half and half cream or sweetened condensed milk.
  • You can pre-melt the chocolate in the microwave to speed the process, or add in chocolate syrup instead.
  • Do not keep the liquid at a full boil, as this may scald the milk.
