Step 1
Make an investment replacing your old windows. Old windows can leak a lot of heat out of your house as they become porous.
-
Step 2
Avoid using baseboard heaters; the kind that are stripped horizontally against the wall. These are notorious for being energy wasters. Also instead of using the centralized heat, make a habit of putting on thicker closes while inside.
-
Step 3
Invest in a small convection oven. They take less time and energy to heat up than a convectional oven, so if you have to bake something that doesn't require all of the space then you can use the convection oven instead.
-
Step 4
Unplug utilities at night, some utilities like computers and dvd players stay on at night, in a type of idle sleep mode which can add up to using a lot of energy. You can also install a green switch in your house which is a sort of dimmer switch that turns off everything in your house when you flip the switch.

on 7/16/2009 Good ways to save money. I can't wait for the kids to go back in school so they won't have everything on all day long.
