Things You'll Need:
- Rake
- Load of Shells or Stone
- Compactor
- Shovel
-
Step 1
One of a landscaping companies bread and butter are driveways and patios. The material to lay the driveway is cheap and the amount of effort need to spread the stone is small. A local landscaper will charge you big money for an easy task. It is also cheaper than a concrete driveway.
-
Step 2
Compact the area with either a hand compactor or a gas powered compactor. Either will work one will do it easier than the other. To be ultimately thrifty use the hand compactor. You want to compact the area because depending on what kind of material is below the existing driveway it could be soft. Professionals will use a clay hardener that compacts nicely and doesn't erode with rainfall.
-
Step 3
Evenly rake stone or shell out so as not to have any spots that your car might get stuck in. In most situations the less the stone the better. If you get too thick a layer just rake it out until it looks sturdy.
-
Step 4
Repeatedly Drive up and down the driveway so as to compact the newly laid driveway even further.
-
Step 5
Enjoy you did it yourself and saved yourself thousands of dollars in the process. Doesn't that feel good!! This option is also much cheaper than concrete stamping.
