Have a saddle and the stirrups just turn the wrong way ? This can make a ride uncompfortable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Saddle
  • Water
  • Broom
  1. Step 1

When I had gotten a new saddle or an older used one, this is one of the first things that I did to it. I learned this trick from my dad. This is for the saddle that only you use.

  2. Step 2

Run your bath tub full of cold water. Never use hot water it is not good for the leather. Dip your saddle in the water up to the top of the skirt finders. You may put a stool in the tub, because you need to leave it in the cold water for approx 1 hour.

  3. Step 3

Take your saddle out of the water and put it on a rack. Get a broom and turn your stirrups the way you want them. Run the broom stick through both of the stirrups and let them set there at least over night. When they dry, they will be set the way that you want them Now oil the saddle good so it won't dry out.

  4. Step 4

The old cowboys rode their horses into the water and then rode the horse until the stirrups were set.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use only cold water.
  • Let saddle dry, before taken the broom out.
  • After the saddle is dry oil it down.
  • Never use hot water. It can run leather
  • Please do not do this to a saddle that is loaned to you.
  • Always put oil on the saddle afterwards.
