In addition to being a beautiful and versatile stone, the sapphire has long been a symbol of truth and faithfulness. This makes sapphires perfect for engagement rings, or any other kind of jewelry.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • A pencil or pen
  • Some time to window shop
  1. Step 1

Spend some time window shopping at both online and local jewelers to get ideas for your ring. Seeing examples of sapphire rings at local jewelers will give you a true sense of available cuts and colors. Online jewelers may give you more of a variety of designs. Once you have an idea of the kinds of sapphire rings available, start to consider some of the specifics.

  2. Step 2

What color sapphire do you want? Typical sapphires range in color from pale blue to deep indigo, but sapphires also come in other colors including black, purple, violet, green, dark grey, yellow, orange, and white.

  3. Step 3

Do you want a single sapphire, multiple sapphires, or a sapphire combines with other gemstones? Sapphires are often paired with diamonds, which can help to bring out the rich color of your stone. However, sapphires stand alone very well too.

  4. Step 4

Think about how large you would like your stone, or stones, to be and what cut you would like. Sapphires come in most of the same cuts as diamonds do, since they are almost as hard, so there are many possible cuts.

  5. Step 5

Finally, sketch some ideas for your ring or print out a picture you find online. Once you have a firm idea in your mind (and on paper) you'll be ready to talk to a jeweler about having it created.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't settle! Make sure you find something you love, since that's the joy of designing your own sapphire ring.
  • If you are designing an engagement ring, think about what kind of wedding band you want later to go with it.
  • Make sure you work with a certified professional jeweler when having your ring made, since you want your new jewelry to last a lifetime!
