Don't be stumped when it comes to getting the right size dress shirt! Knowing your correct size will make shopping fast and easy, whether you need a tux or a button down shirt for work, these steps will work for you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flexible tape measure
  • Partner
  1. Step 1

Stand up straight and look directly forward. Let your arms hang loosely at your sides, feet together.

  2. Step 2

Have your partner take the flexible tape measure and wrap it gently around the fullest part of your neck. They should hold two fingers under the tape to allow for movement. This is your neck measurement. If the number is a strange fraction, round up to the nearest half. For instance, 16.25" would be 16 1/2".

  3. Step 3

Now your partner will measure the sleeve. Have them place the end of the tape at the bone that pokes out in the back of the neck, between the shoulders. The tape should be drawn over the shoulder and down the arm. The measurement is taken between the outer wrist bone and where your palm starts to swell out. If the measurement is 34.25, your sleeve length would be 34-35.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember not to pull too tight on the tape. Just snug enough to keep from slipping is the tension you are looking for.
  • You can also walk into almost any mens suit store, such as Al's Formalwear or Men's Warehouse and they will measure you for a small charge or for free.
