Here are some tips for using essential oils for oily skin care.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know which essential oils are considered useful for oily skin. They include basil, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, helichrysum, juniper berry, lemongrass, myrtle, patchouli, sage, sandalwood, and tea tree.

  2. Step 2

For everyday use, combine a few drops of any of the essential oils with your usual moisturizer. You may need to experiment to see which oil works best for you.

  3. Step 3

Make an oily skin facial mask:

Mix 3 tablespoons of white corn meal and almond meal (freshly ground raw almonds are better). Add the following essential oils: 10 drops lavender, 5 drops bergamot, 3 drops of clary sage.

Add enough rosewater or orange flower water to make a wet paste. Use circular motions to gently massage the mixture onto your face, avoiding the soft tissues under the eyes. Leave on for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water. Finish by splashing cold water on your face to close your pores.

  4. Step 4

If you also have acne, blend 0.75 ounce of jojoba oil with 8 drops tea tree oil, 6 drops bergamot oil, and 4 drops lavender essential oil. Massage around pimples every evening. For daytime use (never go into sun while using this blend), you can use lotion instead of oil.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for skin care products that already contain pure essential oils.
  • Do not go out into the sun for at least 2 hours after applying bergamot or any citrus oil to your skin. These oils make skin more sensitive to UV radiation.
  • Make sure you buy only high-quality essential oils. Low quality oils may irritate your skin.
  • It's always a good idea to spot test an oil to make sure you are not sensitive to it.
