Starting a new online business, website, or blog? Find a niche market to cater to with this how-to

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Go to google adwords keywords tool. Click generate keywords by Descriptive Words or Phrases. In the box write any keywords you want to search for...an example blue moon ice cream.

  2. Step 2

Analyze the keywords. ¨Blue moon Ice cream¨ averages 1600 searches per month. This is too small and won´t generate any real traffic. However, on the plus side of things it is so small that people who search for ¨blue moon ice cream¨ might be led to this article.

  3. Step 3

You want something that gets ideally between 3-6000 searches per month. Make sure it isn´t just last month´s monthly average; make sure it is an overall average.

  4. Step 4

Do a google search for your keywords. Put quotation marks around them as that means to search for exact phrase match. For ¨blue moon ice cream¨ there were 1,2400,000 webpages with that exact phrase. WAY too competitive to get in the top 10. So not worth it. Ideally you´d want something under 40,000 competing web pages.

  5. Step 5

I know this sounds easy as there are only 4 steps but I know it can be difficult. Send me a message if you think there are any steps I could explain better. Since, I know how difficult this can be.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your keywords don´t look spammy. For example blue moon ice cream is good but ice blue moon cream is spammy even if it does get a good amount of searches. When you SEO everything you don´t want to look spammy.
  • This is a lot of work and could take you days to find a suitable nice.
  • Remember you´re building a business not just a website
  • There are software programs out there that will do this for you.
  • Don´t start something in a niche you have no interest in. You NEED to provide valuable information to your visitors. Make the internet stronger not weaker.
