Some days you're just not in the mood to make traditional French toast including the dripping mess of eggs, scraping the griddle and having to make them one-by-one. Instead, still get the delicious French toast taste, but in one easy dish.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 c. bread, cubed
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Greased 8x8 pan
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Lightly grease the 8x8 pan and set aside.

  2. Step 2

On the bottom of the dish, evenly scatter the breadcrumbs to cover the entire dish.

  3. Step 3

Beat together the eggs, 2 Tbsp. sugar, milk, salt and vanilla. Pour evenly over bread. Then dot the dish with small cubes of the margarine. Allow time for the bread to soak up some of the milk mixture by letting the dish stand for about 10 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Combine the last 2 Tbsp. sugar and cinnamon and evenly distribute over the top. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden. Serve with syrup, powdered sugar or your favorite pie filling. It also tastes great without anything extra added.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make the dish a little sweeter, double the sugar and cinnamon that goes on the top.
  • Easily double the recipe and just use a 9x13 pan instead of an 8x8. Cooking time may increase slightly in this case.
