Develop your own black and white film

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • photo canister
  • reel
  • film
  • can opener
  • scissors
  • black sealed bag
  • film developer
  • stop bath
  • fixer
  • water
  • photo-flo
  1. Step 1

    Place photography film, canister, reel, scissors and can opener inside sealed black photo bag. Use can opener to pop off the cap on the bottom of your film, pull your roll of film out. Cut the end of your film to make even (take your time since your doing the whole process without seeing anything. Put end of film onto reel and crank your reel until all film is on firmly, at end of roll cut to make even with your scissors. Place your reel of film inside photography canister and close firmly.

  2. Step 2

    Place 10oz. of film developer into photography canister and agitate for 30 seconds straight. After 30 seconds of straight agitation wait 30 seconds and agitate 5 seconds every 30 seconds for 7 minutes. After pour out.

  3. Step 3

    Place 10oz. of stop bath into photography canister and agitate for 30 seconds straight. Pour out after.

  4. Step 4

    Pour in 10oz. of fixer into photography canister and agitate for 30 seconds straight then wait 30 seconds and agitate 5 seconds every 30 seconds for 5 minutes total. Pour out stop bath after.

  5. Step 5

    Now take your reel of film out of photography canister and rinse for 5 minutes. After a rinse place into Photo-Flo for one minute. After Photo-Flo pull your film off reel and use both fingers in a scissor like motion to remove excess water and Photo-Flo. Now hang film to let dry, and now your should cut film up in 5 photos at a time to fit standard sleeves(optional)

Tips & Warnings
  • When placing film on reel make sure film is not exposed to light
  • Temperature of chemicals should be 68 to 72 degrees
  • Make sure your equipment is the proper photography equipment
  • Some chemical may be toxic be careful not to get in face and wash your hands after procedure
